Assoc. Prof. Yordan Yordanov participated as a lecturer in the Blended Intensive Programme “AI and Labour Market Transformation”, hosted by Medical University - Sofia as part of the INGENIUM European University activities.
His lecture, “AI in Biomedical Data Analysis,” explored the increasingly close interaction between artificial intelligence, pharmacology, toxicology, statistics, bioinformatics and medical research.
A central message of the lecture was that AI is most useful as a scientific tool rather than as a substitute for scientific reasoning. Machine-learning and AI approaches can help researchers identify patterns in complex datasets, integrate heterogeneous information and generate new hypotheses, but meaningful biomedical interpretation still depends on domain expertise, experimental context and critical scientific judgment.
The programme also created opportunities for interaction between students and researchers from different disciplines and European universities, an important environment for developing genuinely interdisciplinary biomedical research.
