MU OmicsLab is a computational toxicology and omics research direction at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University – Sofia.
Its role is to connect experimental toxicology with bioinformatics, image analysis, AI-assisted analysis, and reproducible computational workflows. The emphasis is not only on generating data, but on making experimental and molecular readouts mechanistically interpretable.
Academic Structure
MU OmicsLab is positioned within the following academic structure:
- MU OmicsLab: led by Assoc. Prof. Yordan Yordanov, PhD, with focus on computational toxicology, omics interpretation, reproducible workflows and research mentorship.
- Toxicology Section: headed by Prof. Virginia Tzankova, PhD, ERT, providing the experimental toxicology environment in which MU OmicsLab is developed.
- Department of Pharmacology, Pharmacotherapy and Toxicology: headed by Prof. Georgi Momekov, PhD, DSc, who also serves as Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University – Sofia.
Many experimental efforts are supported through team expertise in in vitro and in vivo toxicology, while MU OmicsLab contributes bioinformatics, automation, and computational interpretation.
